  Great food, very friendly and prompt staff. Loved the beef fillet and fish and chips here. If you haven't been a fantastic place to go close to the city.

  Three of us went to The River cafe to celebrate a milestone anniversary. As requested, we were placed with a great view of the Torrens Lake and the city. I must add, that the River Cafe has been our 'go to' restaurant for celebrating family anniversaries and entertaining visiting guests, both inter-state and international. So, over the past 5 years we have probably dined there 15 or 20 times. Sadly, last night's visit will probably be our last because of a mediocre, expensive experience. It was very noisy, precluding interesting conversations; the dishes were average at best and the service, though efficient seemed a bit brusque. When I arrived, I noted that the lamb targine was back on the menu and, based on very fond memories, I ordered it. The reality, when it arrived (sans targine), though quite flavourful, was a heavy chew through some tough chunks of goat meat with scattered carrots and good sauce. My companions (crab pasta and gnocchi with sugo) were equally underwhelmed by their dishes. We agreed that we could have done better out of the river bank with fresh baguettes, a salmon salad and a bottle of wine (total cost about $60 instead of the $200+).

  Amazing! View was spectacular and was far enough away from the buzz of the city that you felt like you were rather secluded. Spectacular service.

  Fantastic italian food, always a treat overlooking Adelaide and the Torrens. Nice wine list.
